Smart home technology used to be the preserve of the super-rich. Today, this technology can be delivered into “real world” homes, where for a modest outlay, everything from audio-visual and entertainment technologies to lighting, heating, security and more can be controlled from the touch of a button.

This connected lifestyle is expected by today’s homebuyer.  It’s a fast moving world that can add value on developments and improve saleability.

In order to help house builders tap into this explosive new market of smart home technology, CEDIA® developed a RIBA, BIID and RIAI Accredited CPD (Continuing Professional Development) entitled, ‘Designing Integrated Future-Ready Homes’. This CPD has been designed to educate house builders on how to master the art of designing and installing integrated future-ready homes.

CEDIA’s Accredited Designing Integrated Future Ready Homes CPD has been presented to over 700 design professionals a year. Ideal for house builders looking to understand the basics of smart home technology, the CPD outlines what is possible in the realm of smart home technology and explains how to incorporate various systems without detracting from the properties design. Participants will become educated on how to talk intelligently with the client and the other members of the design team when discussing home automation.
In addition to the CPD, CEDIA has recently produced Recommended Smart Home Wiring Guidelines which will provide developers with the core information they need to know when wiring for the modern, connected home.

This publication provides a useful and practical step-by-step guide. It identifies the key requirements for an installation and defines three grades of recommended cabling infrastructure.

Through a clearly defined staged process and using explanatory diagrams, the document outlines the incoming services and the planning, cabling and testing essentials which should be followed for each Grade.
